Septum Piercing

Septum, i.e. piercing the nasal septum, has undergone an incredible evolution - from a symbol of subculture rebellion, to one of the hottest and most common trends in today's world of fashion and Ear/Face Styling. Regardless of whether you prefer a subtle, thin, tight circle or a massive horseshoe, Septum immediately adds symmetry and character to the face.

The great advantage of this piercing is the fact that it is one of the few they can be completely hidden, making it an ideal choice for people with a strict dress code at work. W Piercing Planet We have prepared a complete guide to nasal septum piercing for you.

Jewelry for Septum Piercing

What is Septum Piercing?

One of the biggest myths about the Septum is the belief that you are piercing the hard cartilage of the septum. This is a mistake!

A professional piercer looks for the so-called "sweet spot" - a soft, thin piece of connective tissue (skin) that is located just under the hard cartilage and above the lower edge of the nose.

  • Anatomy matters: The size and availability of the "sweet spot" is different for each person.
  • Crooked septum: If you have a deviated septum, an experienced piercer can determine the angle of the piercing so that the piercing visually evens out the asymmetry of the nose and does not emphasize it.

Does a septum piercing hurt?

If the piercing is done correctly, in the thin "sweet spot", the Septum is one of the the least painful facial piercings! Pain is usually rated only at 2 to 3 on a 10-point scale.

However, the treatment looks very specific:

  1. The piercer most often uses special forceps with a tube (so-called septum forceps) to capture the soft tissue and stabilize the nose.
  2. The puncture itself takes a fraction of a second, but, as with Nostril, irritation of the trigeminal nerve in the nose will cause Tears will automatically flow from your eyes. It has nothing to do with pain, it is a pure physiological reflex!

Healing time and Septum care

The lack of interference with the cartilage means that Septum heals relatively quickly and without any problems, as long as you follow a few strict hygiene rules.

  • Initial stage of healing (sensitivity to touch): from 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Complete healing of the canal: from 3 to 4 months.

The most important rules for the septum:

  1. Qatar is a challenge: Septum healing during cold or allergy season can be troublesome. You should blow your nose very carefully, preferably by gently applying a tissue.
  2. Cleaning and odor: The inside of the nose is a naturally moist environment. To avoid the specific smell of accumulating plasma (so-called septum func), wash the wound twice a day with sterile saline, using cotton buds.

How to care for a fresh piercing? (Principles of care)

  1. Don't touch: Avoid touching the earring with dirty hands and refrain from "spinning" it.
  2. Cleanse regularly: Wash the piercing site 2-3 times a day with sterile saline solution.
  3. Avoid chemicals: Avoid using hydrogen peroxide, alcohol or antibiotic ointment. They may irritate the wound and delay healing.
  4. Be careful with your hair and clothes: Make sure that shampoo or conditioner does not remain on the ear after bathing. Be careful when putting on sweaters!

What jewelry to wear with Septum?

The inside of the nasal cavity is a mucous membrane that is extremely absorbent and sensitive to the quality of materials.

During healing:

The gold standard is Titanium horseshoe (Circular Barbell). Its open design allows the above-mentioned nose ring to be turned up when necessary.

  • Rod Thickness: The standard is 1.2 mm (or 1.6 mm if you plan to wear very massive jewelry).
  • Size: Most often, horseshoes with a diameter of 8 mm or 10 mm are used at the beginning, which takes into account the initial swelling of the tip of the nose.

After healing:

When the canal is 100% healed (after a minimum of 3-4 months), you can finally change the horseshoe to a closed circle. They rule here:

  • Clickers: Extremely easy to put on yourself thanks to the "click" system. They can be smooth, teardrop-shaped (V-shaped) or richly studded with zircons.
  • Seamless Rings: Smooth, tight-fitting rings perfect for a minimalist look.
